Two layers of musical information

The live layer updates continuously. Low, mid and high frequency energy, spectral balance and transient strength shape beam motion, screen response and crowd shimmer from frame to frame. This keeps the stage connected to the texture of the recording.

The structural layer knows the larger arrangement. Beat and downbeat positions keep cues aligned; section labels establish the visual state; detected drops allow one-shot effects to fire exactly once. Together, these layers prevent both sluggishness and randomness.

Rhythm

Beats and bars schedule camera cuts, sweeps and repeated fixture movement.

Energy

Frequency bands and loudness control intensity, motion range and atmospheric response.

Structure

Verses, builds, choruses and the climax select distinct palettes and production scale.

Why anticipation matters

A real lighting crew prepares for important musical moments. Because the full track has already been analysed, a virtual show can do the same: haze can build before a chorus, moving heads can travel toward their new positions and the palette can begin a controlled transition that lands on the downbeat.

Live audio uses a different path

A microphone does not reveal the future, so live mode falls back to a real-time tempo tracker and current audio features. The visual system keeps the same vocabulary, but it reacts rather than anticipates. This is appropriate for DJ sets, instruments and room audio where low latency matters more than a precompiled cue list.
